Govt Looks To Complete Char Dham Project Before 2018 End

The government looks to complete the 'Char Dham' road connectivity project in Uttarakhand before 2018-end with 10 proposals related to the ambitious Rs 12,000-crore scheme getting green clearance, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said. The minister said that after the green clearance the road and highways ministry has started the working fast on the project which is on the top of the agenda of PM Narendra Modi's government.

"Environment clearances have been received for 10 of the proposals of Char Dham project, built at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore. We have speed up the project work and will complete before the end of 2018, the Highways, Road Transport, and Shipping Minister told. The minister said other destroy proposals related to the wishful project will be cleared soon as meetings are on among various ministries, including the Environment and Forest Ministry.

"This will be the biggest gift to all pilgrims as a pilgrimage to Char Dham always high on the peoples' agenda as this is a topic linked to trust. A large number of national and international pilgrims comes to Char Dham," Gadkari said. He said the highways are built on a 900-km long new bond and tunnels etc are built fastest as they can this will be an all-weather road. This month the minister has planned a meeting of a group of ministers on infrastructure and has disposed of various ministries to fast up 18 proposals of the Char Dham project, that were not completed in absence of various clearances. Last year P.M Narendra Modi had kept the foundation stone of the Char Dham project.

The project aims at improving connectivity to Char Dham pilgrimage places of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri in the Himalayas. Uttarakhand government authorities display amid the meeting had brought up a warning by the Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change announcing forty square km area near Bhagirathi River as an eco-sensitive zone. Gadkari has requested his forest pattern to look into the matter as this was not only holding up the Char Dham project but causing delays in Border Road and Namami Gange Projects as well. NAM MR ABM
